A very distinctive and lovely form of purpurascens, collected by me in China and probably worthy of a clonal name (answers on a postcard please and nothing rude) with the most unusual purple flush to the new foliage in spring, which is out before most dark-leaved plants . Very red-purple calyces to the gorgeously scented white flowers, on a well-formed shrub. Very nice and bone hardy, it makes a medium sized shrub with arching stems.
