A very beautiful and rare Mexican shrub, requiring some shelter in the winter in the form of a warm wall, conservatory or fleece for larger specimens. The most brilliant cherry-red tubular, long drooping flowers make a memorable picture in midsummer against semi-evergreen foliage. Would make a spectacular pot specimen to stand outside for the season and easy to keep in shape with simple pruning of its graceful arching stems. Introduced to Europe in 1841.
