A very lovely and rare, ultimately large growing shrub with cream-coloured flowers that have orange markings and are weigelia-like. Again not easy to propagate but easy to grow and, although not as striking as D.floribunda, still very fine. I remember seeing a whole stand of this plant in Yunnan in full flower, and it looked fantastic. Introduced by George Forrest in 1910, there is a plant of his original collection in Wisley Garden.
