Nothing looks quite like the Chilean fire bush, ,a large bush to small tree, with its brilliant orange-scarlet flowers in May-June. A treasured plant, this is the hardiest form but suitable only for neutral to acid soil. I have planted several embothrium in different gardens and they have done well but positioning is important. They like shelter from the wind and do best in a sunny position. Make sure the soil does not dry out in the early stages particularly, but not waterlogged. It is worth the effort. I find it is important to start with a healthy plant. I have never lost an embothrium but they do have a reputation for being fickle plants and as such it is NOT possible to give a guarantee on them , they are scarce because they are difficult to propagate but definitely worth the effort. . I have two healthy 3-4foot plants plants and a few good sized healthy plants.
