I like viburnums, however, they vary in ornamental value relative to the space they take up. Fortunately plicatum "Mariesii' is very much worth it. In early summer, each branch sets from end to end with beautiful pure white corymbs. Horizontally tiered branches make an architectural statement and an "oriental' and relaxed feel to any garden. Makes a superb specimen plant, getting better every year. Tough, easy and hardy, with deep red autumn hues to the leaves. Named for English plant hunter Charles Maries who sent it back from Japan in 1879.
