Used by the Cherokee Indians as a blue dye, Baptisia is tough but effective, with lovely deep blue pea-like flowers in late spring and early summer. Can withstand drought and is long-lived. Can look superb with taller plants such as alliums and irises etc and it also looks great with Alchemellia mollis 'Lady's Mantle' planted in front. Striking trifoliate grey-green foliage on upright stems are maintenance-free.
